Daniel Lesson 16

Daniel Lesson 16

Daniel Lesson 16

Text: Daniel 7:9-28 (Part 2)

Intro: We spent the last couple of weeks looking at ch.7. This should show the importance of this chapter. Last week we saw these same verses, and looked at the aspect of the anti-christ in them. This week we are going to look at the Kingdom of Christ found in these verses.

  1. The Kingdom of Christ,

    1. The Heavenly Throne of the Father, Vs.9-12

      1. Throne Set In Place,

        1. verse 9 uses the phrase “I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of Days did sit,…”

        2. See Revelation 4&5.

      2. Ancient of Days,

        1. this is just an expression the eternity of God,

          • How He was, is and is to come.

          • Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”

          • Job 36:26 “Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.”

        2. in fact the very name of God denotes that God is eternal,

      3. Antropomorphism,

        1. deffination, giving human atributes, human traits, emotions, and intents, to a non human.

        2. It is a tool to help understand the unknown.

          • Garments white as snow,

          • His hair was like pure wool,

          • His throne like a fiery flame, (shinning flame)

        3. His Wheels???

          • Psalm 77:18 “The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightenings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.”

          • Can you figure which word in this verse is the same as wheel?

            • It is heaven, the idea that is used here is not a device to move someone, but the whirling wind around something. (think of the transporter in Star trek)

        4. But there is not reason to accept this as an actual physical discription of God,

          • John 4:24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

          • Job 33 and Psalm 33 both (as well as many other scriptures) refer to the breath of God, but does God have breath?

          • Ecc. 9 refers to the “hands” of God, but does God have hands?

            • Well, let me put it this way, when we refer to the hkman body and the aspect of how it relates to God.

              • How many things in and about our body are designed to deal with creation: air for the lungs, our immune system, even the fact of gravity on the body….

    2. God’s Throne Parelled in Ezekiel,

      1. Ezekiel 1:15-21 & 26&27

        1. Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. 16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel. 17 When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went. 18 As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four. 19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. 21 When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels………26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. 27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.

          • the symbolisim:

            • the fire speaks of His judgment and Holiness

            • the wheel speaks of the providental working in the world (Deu. 4:24 He is a consuming fire)

          • He is praised by angels surrounding Him

          • as the books are opened, God prepares to adminster Judgement

            • the fact is here, is the antichrist, satan, the poweres of the world, God is still on the throne.

    3. The Earthly Throne of the Son of God, Vs.13,14, & 27

      1. Son Of Man,

        1. vs.13 rfefers to Christ as the Son of man,

          • this is a common title of Jesus, It was used 82 times in the gospels, and often by Jesus Himself.

          • Revelation 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

          • Revelation 14:14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

        2. The phrase here the clouds of heaven,

          • should remind us of the coming of Jesus, as He promised, also what was promised by the angels in Acts,

          • Acts 1:9-11And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

        3. this is also the compleation of the dream that Nebchadnezzar had in Daniel 2, where the stone that was cut without hands struk the statue at the feet, and grew into a mountian that covered the earth.

          • This is the kingdom of Messiah,

        4. See also Revelation 5:1-7

        5. Psalm 2:7-9I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

          • unlike the preceeding kingdoms including the kingdom of the anti-christ, the kingdom of Jesus cannot end.

      2. The Kingdom Covenant,

        1. the Davidic covenant,

          • II Samuel 7:12&13 “And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.”

          • this is the promise of God to David, and to Israel.

          • Luke 1:31-33 “And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”

          • See also Luke 1:67-80

        2. In Revelation 20 the idea of His kingdom lasting for 1000 years on earth is mentioned 6 times.

          • This is what we refer to as the “Millennium Kingdom” meaning litteraly 1,000 years.

            • Latan

            • and there will during this time be more prophecies fulfilled, the deliverance of Nature, as well as Peace on earth.

      3. Daniels Responce to the Visions,

        1. vs.28 “…As for me Daniel, my congitations much troubled me, and my countance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.”

          • congitations- mental conception, grasp

            • he was troubled in his thought.

          • Vs.15 tells us that Daniel was grived in his spirit.

        2. As a child of God, we should be saddened when we realize what will happen to people if they do not recive Jesus as savior.

        3. A.W. Tozer (1897-1963) “The bible doesn’t approve of this modern curiosity that plays with the scriptures and which seeks only to impress credulous and gullible audiences with amazing prophetic knowledge possessed by the brother who is preaching or teaching”
