Jehovah Nissi

Text: Exodus 17:8-16

  1. Background,

    1. The Nation journeys toward the promised land,

      1. Recap of the last few days,

      2. They had seen the power of God,

        Exodus 14:13&14And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

      3. Now We start to see others rise up in the congregation,

    2. Look at the Present (Exodus 17:8-16)

      1. Then Came Amalek…. and fought with Israel,

      2. This time God doesn’t say “stand and watch”.

      3. Everyone had a job to do,

      4. Moses built an Altar, and called the name of it Jehovah Nissi:

  2. Meaning,

    1. Jehovah Nissi,

      1. God is My Banner,

  3. Application,

    1. There are always going to be battles,

      1. A Pattern of the Nations Journey,

      2. One Lesson we can Learn from this, is God will always be there for us,

Hebrews 13:5Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 

    1. God wants us to grow to the point where we can produce fruit,

      1. God desires “Christian Maturity”

    2. Everyone has a Place,

      1. With Service in Mind,

      1. Who was not Needed?
