Galatians Lesson 13
Galatians
Lesson 13
Text: Galatians 6:6-10
Intro: as we get to the last few words of Paul to the Galatians, I want to look at the words of encouragement. How He wants them to share in a blessed life, and to enjoy the blessings God gives.
-
Well Doing,
-
Koinos, (κοινωνός, οῦ, ὁ, ἡ ) (koy-no-nos’) “Communicate”
-
Partake/ Fellowship,
-
to start with tonight, I want to focus on the word Koy-no-nos, (koy-no-nea)
-
this is one of those words that means many different things, depending on the context you use it.
-
There are three main ones in the Scripture that we are going to look at.
-
-
The First one is to partake or to fellowship,
-
-
-
-
I Corinthians 10:18-20 “Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? 19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? 20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.”
-
so it gives the idea of being with one another,
-
the concept here is just as in the early days of the church, they “fellowshiped” with one another on a daily basis.
-
But, it is not just being in a group….
-
-
Partner/ Companion,
-
Luke 5:10 “ And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.”
-
it is being part of a group.
-
We know we can be in a crowd, but not necessary part of the crowd.
-
Yes from the viewpoint of onlookers, they see us as part of it. But we know ourselves, that we just got caught up in the crowd.
-
When Kim and I went to the Orchestra at Knoxville, and saw the Hockey team.
-
We were in the crowd, but not part of it.
-
-
-
This word means to be a partner, or part of it as well.
-
But it even goes a little further than that….
-
-
-
-
Give/ Share,
-
Common Greek- koynonea Greek
-
it is to support, and give,’
-
to share all things common,.
-
-
When you look at this verse in context, remember it is coming directly behind, the concept of “sharing” one another burdens, and before, you reap what you sow.
-
It’s not just about talking, but about the entire package of Koynonea,
-
fellowship, partnering, sharing, and helping.
-
-
Let’s really get it back to the theme:
-
the beginning of the letter was to address how some had come in and added things to the gospel.
-
Bow, as Paul has set things straight, he is encouraging the entire body, to help support one another, not just physically, but also spiritually.
-
And when others come in and spread false doctrine, it is not only the teacher that has the responsibility to set it straight, it is every members.
-
-
-
-
One of the things I desire is Support from the congregation.
-
I would like to think that this church would stand up for me in a situation where I am being misrepresented.
-
-
-
The Principles of Sowing and Reaping, vs.7-10
-
You reap what you sow,
-
God is not mocked,
-
the word here is the word you would use to describe the lowing of a cow, or the bellow of a goat.
-
It carries the idea that God is not just a loud empty noise.
-
There is substance to Him.
-
And that substance is revealed in the character of reaping and sowing.
-
-
-
When you put a Kernel of corn in the ground, what do you expect to come up?
-
This principle is the same the world over,
-
-
It is the same Spiritually,
-
if we sow peace, and unity, we will reap peace and unity. However if we sow discord, then we shall reap accordingly.
-
Remember Paul just encouraged them to be in fellowship, in Koynonea,
-
If you want to live in it, then you must sow it.
-
Proverbs 11:18 “The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.”
-
Proverbs 22:8 “He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.”
-
-
Notice int eh text, if you sow of the flesh, you will reap of the flesh.
-
It’s not only negative, but also positive,
-
Proverbs 18:24 “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
-
-
-
You reap more than you sow,
-
the second principle is this,
-
when you put one grain of corn in the ground, what do you expect to come up?
-
A stalk with “ears” of corn.
-
The old saying is, you may number the acorns on a tree, but you can never number the number of trees in an acorn.
-
What does that mean, I could sit and count the number of kernels of corn on an ear of corn, but there is not way for me to know how many ears would come from that kernel, counting the offspring to generations.
-
-
-
-
Hosea 8:7 “For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.”
-
think of people who have sowed discord all their lives,
-
and in their later years, they were alone and miserable.
-
-
My mother tells of a preacher who had a little lady in the nursing home
-
the nursing home told her friends and family to stop bring food.
-
As the talked with her, he found out she use to can and take food to people..
-
-
-
And tho, we reap more than we sow, it is also the case, the manner which we sow, determines the amount we reap.
-
II Corinthians 9:6 “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”
-
-
If I put one kernel out, then I’ll get one stalk, with several ears and several kernels,’
-
however if I put a field out, then I’ll receive a field in return.
-
-
You reap later than you sow,
-
the principle is also that you need to put it out before you can bring it in.
-
I could not expect to go to the field and pick my corn before I put it in the ground.
-
-
I also believe that we will reap both here and in heaven.
-
There may be blessings that do not come in until we receive our reward in heaven,
-
however there are those which will come in here.
-
-
Notice the text, be not weary of well doing, for in due season.
-
One of the hardest things for a lot of people is wait.
-
But here is the fact: days can sometimes be long, and weeks can some times drawn out,
-
but years fly by.
-
We may walk to the garden every day, and only see a small amount of growth, but in the end we will look back and realize how quickly it went by.
-
-
-
Points for home:
-
We can be with others and not be part of them.
-
There is a difference between standing beside someone, and standing with them.
-
-
The principles of Reaping and Sowing:
-
You Reap What You Sow,
-
You Reap More than You Sow,
-
You Reap Later than You Sow,
-
