Door/ Gate/ Leaf of Book & #4

  1. The Door,

    1. A Barrier,

      1. Another familiar Symbol,

        1. one can imagine that no matter where you would find yourself, that if there was a door, it indicates a separation.

          • Even little children learn, there are places to go, and not to go.

        2. For the original symbol, it looked more like a pole on top, with a piece of cloth hanging down from it.

          • Which in those days it probably was. A covering to an entrance.

        3. As the language evolved, we see it transition to what can be described as the number 7 backwards.

        4. Remember.

          • We can describe many things as a door:

            • the door to the soul, our eyes, Words #2&3 both make use of this,

              • door of the eye behold, in order to increase “Knowledge”

              • door of the eye produces liquid, “Crying, or weeping”

      2. Psalm 119:25-32 paints the picture of which door will you choose,

        1. the door to truth, or the door to lies?

    2. How Quickly Things Chan Change!

      1. Notice the contrast between vs.24&25,

        1. Vs.24 “Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselor”

        2. Vs.25 “My soul cleaveth to the dust…”

          • often times there are only brief moments between victory and failures.

            • I find that it is very easy to fall, when on the mountain top.

          • The enemy loves to attack when we are enjoying the blessings of God, and we feel good.

            • It is dangerous to let our guard down,

              • See Ephesians 6:10-18, we must be watchful after the battle, just as we were before,

              • See I Corinthians 10:12, beware when you think you stand lest you fall

      2. Revive Me, Vs.25

        1. I suppose one of the first questions we should ask about this, is:

          • What happened to His victory? Why had he went from the delight, to crawling in the dust?

            • Life can be hard, especially for the Child of God:

            • His enemies were mocking him, vs.23

            • Holding him back in vs.61

            • Lying about him vs.69

            • Making him suffer vs.83

            • threatened his life vs.109

            • despised him, vs.141

          • Things like that can take a tole on you.

            • You have heard the old expression, sticks and stones, not true they do hurt.

        2. So He ask the Lord, Quicken me

          • make me alive, to breath back life into me.

            • And the way God was going to do it?

            • By the word,

            • at least 11 times in this psalm, the psalmist cries out to God, and the Lord answers each time.

          • Not that you have me alive…

      3. Teach Me, Vs.26&27

        1. one of the saddest things that will happen in life is, we experience troubles, and do not learn anything from them,

          • the Psalmist wants the Lord to teach him.

        2. The psalmist was “heavy” with burden and grief (vs.28)

          • We often ask Why, or how come?, when we may need to ask “What do you want me to learn from this?

        3. What does the Lord promise about asking:

          • James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him

          • Matthew 7:7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

        4. By Faith, He trusted God would show him “wondrous things”

        5. The word of God brings understanding, encouragement, and “Strength”

          • Here is a question: Why would one need strength?

          • Answer: hard things are still to come.

      4. Strengthen Me, Vs.28-30

        1. So he ask for strength, because of his heaviness,

          • throughout this psalm, the psalmist makes the point that he is suffering because of his commitment to God and His word,

          • See Vs. 28, 50, 67, 71, 75, 83, 92, 107, 143, 153.

        2. there is a difference between suffering for God, and suffering for our own ignorance

          • Life is hard, it’s harder if you’re stupid” Robert Mitchum

        3. I Peter 4:16 “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

          • this is not saying that if a man suffers because of his own action, then God will not help,

            • I think He will, and does,

          • However, we should be well aware of the difference between suffering because we are Christians, and suffering because we brought it on ourselves.

        4. Notice also here,

          • the psalmist didn’t go on a bitter rage against his enemies, he turned them over to the Lord,

            • He wants God to remove the ways of the lying,

          • Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

        5. Which leads us into the last part,

      5. Defend Me, Vs.31&32

        1. By faith he is accepting the promises of God,

          • I have kept thy word, now, put me not to shame,

            • this is a plea that the Lord would remove those who would try to bring him to shame.

              • Hebrew 10:31 “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

              • Psalm 105:14&15 “He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; 15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

        2. I will run in the way of thy commandments, when thou shall enlarge my heart,

          • An Enlarged heart,

            • to the people during this time, the heart was the center of intellect,

              • the same reason the Egyptians did not remove the heart when mummifying them,

              • what do you hear working inside you, ticking, your heart.

                • For the people of that time, that is what they were saying.

                • I will follow your ways as you increase my knowledge for them.
