-
Yood, Hand (closed)/ Work
-
Number 10,
-
To Work, Labor, or hand,
-
the letter yood is the last if the simple numbers in the Hebrew, 10,
-
the first 10 letters carry a multiple of 1, where the next 10 carry a multiple of 10, the last 4 have a multiple of 100.
-
but just as in English writing, we do not typically use numbers, we have spelling for the numbers for instance the number one,
-
Genesis 1:9 “and God said, let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.”
-
notice how I underlined certain words. Remember we are looking at the Hebrew, and in it, there is not a direct equivalent to each word. In the original language, only the words that are underlined here is used. The other words that appear are either part of the major word, a prefix, or a suffix, or eluded to, and added in the English to make the flow of the sentence to make it understandable.
-
-
Back to the “one”
-
instead of using the Alef as a stand alone number, in written form it is written as: Alef Cheth Daleth (]ja)
-
-
-
we see the same thing in the number two: Genesis 1:16 the two great lights
-
Shin Cheth Yood Mem,
-
-
three- Shin Lamed Vav Shin
-
and so on,
-
incidentally the word for number 10 is Ayin Shin Reysh
-
I did a little research, and I could not find in the bible where the Hebrew number was used, it appears to have always been the word for the number.
-
-
-
The Idea is to work,
-
use your arm and hand,
-
a deed done, to work, labor,
-
there is actually a lot of study of the letter yood by scholars, especially language scholars.
-
The yood is said the be the starting point and ending of every letter. “work from start to finish”
-
the yood was used to symbolize the omnipresence of God, because the yood was always there, in ever letter.
-
-
-
I must be honest, I got a little carried away, reading about the yood,
-
it is the smallest of the letters, but always present, it was added to certain words in order to emphasis humility. It is/ was important to Jewish scholars because of the use of 10 in the bible: like I said I got a little carried away, according to Jewish tradition there was 10 things created on the first day of creation (I feel they were counting- heavens& earth, light & dark, day & night, morning & evening, etc…)10 things on last day of creation, 10 plagues of Egypt, 10 commandments, 10 part is holy to God, a tithe, and several more.
-
-
It was surprising how much has been written on such a small letter.

Learn About Our Self, Vs.73
-
Psalm 139:13-18 “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.”
-
It has been said, the first thing you need to do when you buy a major appliance is read the owners manual.
-
The bible is the owners manual for the Christian life,
-
we find what God wants us to know,
-
-
-
This is one of the reasons the world wants to push evolution over creation, that if we evolved, then everything is relative, and there is no standard, or purpose for our life.
-
But the bible tells us,
-
Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
-
and then there are those, who might say, perhaps He did, but then He left them to their own devices,
-
But the word of God says very different, It shows His direct contact, and His hand at work in the individual life. Consider what God told Jeremiah…
-
Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
-
Before “I” formed you,
-
I Knew you,
-
I sanctified you, I ordained you,
-
-
-
In fact here the word for “Knew” is yada, Yood Dalet Ayin, work the door to your appearance.
-
So we see even in the life of Jeremiah God has His hand on Him to work,
-
-
-
The more we know about the will of God, His plan and Purpose, the better off we will be.
-
Often times when I was working in construction, we would get a new young person. And the older people would pick on them for how little they knew. Often times I would pull out my tape measure, and pull it open to about 19 inches, and there was a diamond on it. I would ask the older people what it meant. Very few knew. And I would explain it to them. But then let them know, that we all have to learn, and this young person may not know yer, but it was because they hadn’t been taught yet.

Becoming a Blessing, Vs.74&79
-
We should strive to live a life that is a living testimony to the goodness of God,
-
Ian Maclaren said “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle”
-
(Rev. John Watson, his pen name, Scottish theologian and author)
-
-
-
Vs.79, the writer proclaimed this, let them who fear thee turn unto me…
-
what does our life say about God?
-
I know I use this example a lot, but I think it is very profound.
-
The three friends of Job, how they described God throughout the book.
-
Job 42:7 “And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.”
-
Here is the scary thing for Me and should be to all Christians,
-
We testify not only with our words, but also our actions.
-
-
-
-
Christians ought to be in the encouraging and helping business.
-
Encouraging Christians to reach their full potential, to abstain from sin, and the things that set them back or slow them down.
-
Encouraging Sinners, that there is a better way, a way that has life, hope and promise.
-
To Help bear burdens, and shoulder the load,
-
Galatians 6:2&5 “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ….5 For every man shall bear his own burden. ”
-
remember the words used here for burden, in vs.2 indicates the more than normal, where vs. 5 means the normal.
-
Incidentally, to bear the normal, means that someone else wont have to shoulder that load. “watching the men relay race in swimming. If one fell behind, the burden fell on the others”
-
-
-
the reason we can be an encouragement is found at the end of vs. 74, Because I have hoped in thy word.
-
-
-
Receiving God’s Blessings, Vs. 75-78 & 80
-
essentially the psalmist is proclaiming the character of God:
-
Vs.75, I know God’s judgments are “right..eous”
-
and you have dealt with me faithfully,
-
Vs.76 let your “mercy and Grace (kindness) comfort me, as you word promises
-
Vs.77 your word gives life,
-
John 6:68 “Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.” after many left because of the bread of life discourse
-
-
I will let you deal with the proud, while I focus on Your word,
-
in due season everyone will answer for their deeds. Good and bad.
-
-
-
Vs.80 should be a cry for all of us,
-
“Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed”
-
ashamed in front of the world, and even more important, to not be ashamed in front of God.
