Daniel Lesson 23
Daniel Lesson 23
Text: Daniel 11:36-45
Intro: tonight we will briefly look at the rise and fall of the Antichrist
-
The Great Tribulation,
-
The Rise of Antichrist,
-
Background.
-
First, we need to remember there is no new doctrine in the New Testament that is not referenced in the Old,
-
the tribulation and the Antichrist are just a couple of them.
-
-
In the book of Daniel we first started to get a gimps of these events,
-
with the dream of Nebuchadnezzar, the feet with ten toes mixed with iron and clay
-
in ch.7 vs.7-28 we see the rise of the Antichrist with the 10 nation league
-
in ch.9 vs.24-27 we see the 70 week prophecies, giving us that last week for the tribulation (7 years, 1 day per year)
-
-
The tribulation period will begin with a treaty signed by the Antichrist,
-
and it will end with the coming of Christ and the confinement of Satan to the bottomless pit.
-
But before all that, there must be a rise of the Antichrist,
-
-
Small Beginnings,
-
Evan a man of short statue cast a long shadow at the end of the day,
-
we must not think that the Antichrist will come in with a bang, kick open the door and announce his presence,
-
-
Daniel 7:24 “And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.”
-
he comes out of the 10 league nation,
-
he begins as a “little horn”
-
he comes as a man of peace, a solver of problems,
-
Ch.8 Vs.9 says he “….waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.”
-
-
This all comes to a head at the middle of the tribulation period when:
-
he breaks the covenant with Israel,
-
Claims control,
-
Sets himself up as god,
-
See Daniel 9:27, II Thess. 2 & Revelation 13
-
-
-
-
He will Exalt himself,
-
Notice in vs.36 it says “he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god ”
-
this is one indication we know we have switched form Antiochus to the Antichrist,
-
remember who Antiochus set up an altar for? Zeus,
-
-
vs.36 goes on to say how he will speak evil of God… that is until the time that has been appointed, then it will abruptly end. Just a peep, look at vs.45,
-
-
No regard for the God of his father,
-
-
-
